EBACs of 0.08 g per cent were exceeded at least weekly by 37% of women and 39% of men. Teenage females had higher EBACs than teenage males, despite lower consumption. Intoxication was positively associated with lower age, European or Maori ethnicity relative to Asian, Pacific, or other ethnicities, and with residential halls relative to other living arrangements. Faculty of study was inconsistently related to intoxication. Discussion: Frequent drinking to intoxication is normative behaviour in this population group. Of particular concern are intoxication levels in females aged 16-21 years and in males throughout their 20s. The web-based retrospective diary is a useful means of measuring intoxication by self-report. Where time permits it can be enhanced by specification of drinking locations and beverage-specific questions.]]> Tue 20 Aug 2024 15:36:13 AEST ]]> Associations between dietary intake and academic achievement in college students: a systematic review https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:30162 Tue 02 Apr 2019 10:06:44 AEDT ]]> Higher diet quality in university students is associated with higher academic achievement: a cross-sectional study https://ogma.newcastle.edu.au/vital/access/ /manager/Repository/uon:45557 P = 0.011), higher sub‐scale scores for vegetables (β = 0.03, P= 0.026) and fruit (β = 0.05, P = 0.029) and with lower percentage energy per day from EDNP foods overall (β = −0.01, P = 0.047) and also from sweetened drinks (β = −0.06, P < 0.001). Conclusions: The results of the present study demonstrate small associations between a healthier dietary intake and higher academic achievement, as well as vice versa. Given that the associations were small, they may not be particularly meaningful. A third group did not report binge drinking (n = 474). A higher readiness to change binge drinking was associated with more frequent bingeing, more interpersonal and academic problems with alcohol, less frequent use of cannabis, and living in a hall with a norm of binge drinking.
